I used to finalize all my paintings, stopping when they appeared to be balanced. But now I leave a little for the viewer (as unconsciously guided by the deliberately left area) to bring it to completion. Thus is he an active partner in the creation.

Perhaps the composer should do the same – leaving it to us to bring the work to its resolution.
