My husband has a very checkered history when it comes to renting cars. Only once in 29 years has he received the car he reserved. Once he was upgraded to a Jaguar (he still muses fondly of that occasion), but usually it's more like the time last January when the only thing available was a Hyundai Accent with crank windows and no automatic door locks. I didn't know they still made cars like that!
Yesterday, we arrived in California for a week's vacation only to find out that he had mistakenly reserved a car in San Jose, Costa Rica instead of San Jose, CA. Fortunately, the rental car company was very nice and had something available for us. The lady even told Mike not to feel bad--he was the fourth customer she'd had to make the same mistake.
