Hi everyone,
This is not a typical Mimetic Monday email.
I’ve been on roughly a one-month hiatus dealing the sudden illness and death of my mom, Ida. I didn’t have time to give my readers a heads up—it all happened quickly. But I have been meaning to share the news for some time now, and I finally found time for a breather. (The further difficulty has been that my dad suffers from Alzheimer’s-related dementia, and I am taking over from my mom as his primary caregiver—but that’s a story for another day.)
I wrote a longer update on what’s been going on here on my Substack newsletter. Please read it if you’re interested in hearing a more in-depth reflection from me on momento mori, active love, and the kind of vicious focus that can only come out if the crucible.
I expect to be back to more of a regular writing schedule within the next couple weeks with some major (positive!) updates to announce. In addition to a new writing approach, I’ll be releasing weekly videos for the rest of this year in collaboration with Big Think. The first video is an introduction to the scapegoat mechanism, which you can find here.
Thank you, as always, for your support.
Yours,
Luke
