“I got you something that might help you feel better for at least a minute.” Aiden got up off the couch and flashed me a winning smile on his way to the fridge. He pulled something out, then tossed it across the room to me.

I caught it and couldn’t hide the stupid smile beaming on my face. “You got me cookie dough?”

“And I resisted the urge to bake it.”

Pete looked up and crinkled his nose. “But you are going to bake it, right?”

“No way.” I started tearing through the cold tube of goodness.

“Before you destroy the packaging, read the label first.” Aiden gave me a smug grin.

I pieced together the fold I’d already ripped off and skimmed the front. “Safe to eat raw. You got me weak cookie dough?”

“I got you safe cookie dough, because salmonella is a real thing.”

“Whatever.” I smirked and rolled my eyes. “Thanks for looking out for me.” I broke off a chunk of dough. It bounced off my taste buds, bringing me back to life a little. “You’re the best,” I sighed out.

“I know,” Aiden said, folding his arms.

“I was talking to the cookie dough,” I said through another mouthful. “But you’re pretty great too.”

His smile faded. “I’m glad to know where I stand.”
