A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

My favorite Amor Towles novel to date. I'm a writer myself and I found myself in awe of Towles's skill while reading this book. Where did he get his ideas? How was he able to craft his characters into living, breathing people? How much research did it take for him to accurately recreate Moscow from 1926 to just post WWII? I loved the humor and real emotions that filled the novel. He took a setting that would have been claustrophobic in a lesser-skilled writer's hands and created an entire world inside it.
This is Towles's creative peak so far, an unqualified masterpiece.
