Before moving to the States, I enjoyed an idyllic childhood in the Bahamas. But life changed abruptly when I became pregnant at 12 and married at 13. Written off as a teenage mom and high school dropout, I made a discovery that would change my life again: faith.

With God - along with the power of prayer - I surmounted obstacles that would have imprisoned me in poverty and ignorance. I worked hard for an education, ultimately building a successful career in medicine. I worked hard on my marriage, today celebrating more than 30 years together while raising three terrific sons. And I continue to work hard, every day, for the betterment of the world around me.

For me, a change in perspective transformed my destiny through faith in God and oneself.
