On May 13th, 2021, during the peak of the second COVID-19 wave in India, the world as I knew it had suddenly turned upside down. For the next 38 days, I got to experience the treatment given by both government and private hospitals, with 20 of these days spent in a war-room-like COVID ICU. With people dying around me every few hours, I had two options: Go by the famous Sholay line, “jo darr gaya samjho mar gaya” (the one who is afraid is dead), or come up with my own strategy to survive!
I have tried to share vividly and candidly, the horrific scenes and meltdowns I experienced while I myself was struggling for life.
40-50% of this book was written while I was in the hospital. I have tried to keep it as authentic and real as possible. One of the chapters is written by my wife (Sushma Rao) to give an idea to the reader what family members of the patient went through. You will also get more idea about the role played by her in my survival as you read along. I would like to thank my dear friend Dr.Sadasivan Iyer for writing the wonderful foreword for this book.
