Following is the body of a letter I wrote to Dr. Keegan of The Roskamp Clinic on 6/30/22:
Thank you for your time and attention to the issue of New Daily Persistent Headache. While NDPH does not affect a large percentage of the population, those who are afflicted with this treatment refractory, debilitating headache suffer for years, decades or lifetimes with no relief after trying multiple drugs, procedures and treatments. There are no drugs specifically for NDPH, so medications intended for other purposes are used, usually unsuccessfully, in an attempt to ameliorate the constant, unrelenting, unending pain of this headache. Sufferers of NDPH are out of luck when it comes to a cure.
It is my hope, as we discussed yesterday, that Roskamp Institute will apply for a grant at NDPHresearch.org and work to help patients with New Daily Persistent Headache. I fully realize that this is not a profitable undertaking since a relatively small number of people have this horrible headache, yet those who do have it are desperately in need of relief from unremitting pain. It interferes with studies, jobs, relationships, lifestyles and joy and so much more. It would be an entirely altruistic undertaking if Roskamp agreed to do this research and develop an appropriate medication.
I appreciate that you are willing to propose that this research be done and hope that your efforts are successful. If I can do anything to help, I am more than willing to do what I can as a layperson with no medical knowledge but with first-hand experience with New Daily Persistent Headache.
Thank you, Dr. Keegan, for your understanding.
