Writing Under A Pen Name

Years ago when I first started writing, I chose to write under my given name. When I made the decision to write across genres, I opted against using a pen name. Well, that decision has changed.

Last year I was feeling really unmotivated. I love the stories I wanted to tell, but personal things in my life made me want to give up and I didn’t want to write. So, I figured that I needed a passion project. Something to put the spark back into me and bring back my love for telling stories. I needed something different to write. Something outside of the stories I had thought up over the past twenty or so years.

So I thought why not try writing something that I love reading? Romance. Whenever I’m feeling down, I pick up a good chicklit book and get lost between the pages. Because the theme of the stories are so far removed from what I typically write, I decided to go with a pen name. While these stories are so far only being published on wattpad, I think keeping them separate from the TaQuanda Taylor brand was the right move.

Plus, I’m not quite ready to admit that I enjoy writing steamy romance and that I’m actually kind of good at it.

So, now I’ve committed myself to something and I have to figure out a publishing schedule that doesn’t interfere with the one I already have.
