Novels Set in Barcelona

Barcelona is my favourite city, which is why I chose it as the setting for my first novel Proof I Was Here. If you also love the city, or simply wish to visit via a great book, here are four of my favourite novels that take place in Barcelona (and are available in English translation):
Nada by Carmen Laforet
The Time of the Doves by Mercè Rodoreda
The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #1) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
No Word From Gurb by Eduardo Mendoza

The first three novels take place during or shortly after the Spanish civil war. No Word from Gurb is a social satire set in 80s Barcelona as an alien (who thinks he's a pop star) wanders around the city. My own novel is set in 2010. It follows the journey of a young woman plunged into Barcelona's grittier underbelly: a world of political squatters, graffiti artists, and pickpockets. If you are planning a future Barcelona trip (of the real or imagined kind), any one of these novels would make a great travel companion! The first two chapters of my novel are available for preview here
