Oh dear, I've had the exact same thing happen to me! I'm absolutely terrified of snakes. I did not handle this situation with the aplomb you did. Instead I screamed blood murder, which causes said cat to panic and run under the sofa with the snake still in her mouth. After tentatively crawling off the TV, I ran to the neighbors and hysterically told the 2 college guys of my predicament. One grabs a crowbar, the other a shovel. Imagine their surprise when they lift the sofa to find a lowly garter snake. It's all the same to me. Might as well have been a copperhead. Shudder. I don't know why our feline friends want us dead. It's not very nice.

Luckily mine don't bring me dead things - though it is one of my biggest fears in life. I don't get many mice in the house but I seem to get a bat or two every year. BUT they are always trying to trip me on the stairs ....I have nine cats (I belong to a rescue group, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it) Two of them are black and they love to lay against the back of the steps so I can't see them when I'm coming down ..... the others just seem to enjoy getting under my feet when I'm walking, possibly hoping I'll trip and do serious harm to myself .. I don't know why they're always trying to kill me - who do they think is going to feed them if I'm not around ????
This post cracked me up! I can totally relate. Back when my cats were indoor-outdoor cats, they were always bringing me gifts (but thankfully no snakes!!!). We had a run on "three-legged frogs" one year. Hmmm... Somehow, I don't think those poor froggies started out that way. Now, that they are indoor only, they just try to constantly trip me.
