the world as we know it
Whenever I get extended periods of time away from the "real world", the less I want to go back to it. As much as I love humanity and the things we've created... A lot has gone wrong. I see sadness more than smiles. I see anger more than friendships.
What have we become? So I wrote a poem about it...
More Than I Liked
I stepped into the world today
And I loved what I saw;
Smiling faces, kids doing bike races,
Tail-wagging puppers, construction on the "up-and-uppers".
People working, a nice and slow commute.
Semi-trucks, that meant supplies en route.
Cops on duty, doing their very best.
Nurses on call, though they needed some rest.
But I must be honest, I saw more than I liked.
I woke up in a world riddled with strife.
With nervous mothers, trying to make it right.
And tireless fathers, just looking for a fight.
Each person trying to keep a smile on their face-
Yet it slips and somehow gets replaced
With a scowl, a cry, or even a scream...
It's tough to remember we're all on the same team.
I'm brown, he's white, she's black-
Yet we're all under attack.
It doesn't matter how you identify,
There are greater things we have to rectify.
I've had the blood of my fellow people
On my hands, at my feet.
It made me cry, it made me take a seat.
But now I feel stronger to stand, ready to make my peace.
It begins from within, know what inspires you.
Take some time to realize what riles you.
Misinformation spreading like wildfire-
From truckers to doctors, it's no wonder we all conspire to
Cut off their sentences with so much as a glance.
It's not about "right or wrong", it's about taking a stance.
I must be honest, it’s more than any of us like
We can be the change, we can all go on strike.

Lynn's World
Sort of like "Elmo's World", except way darker and realistic... Escape with me if you dare.
