I need a burner phone

Sometimes I really miss my landline. A 100 year old landline will probably be functional 100 years from now. You just won't be able to plug it in anywhere. By comparison, some think they need the latest cell phone, even if they came out with a new one every year, at $1000 a crack.
I know, cell phones have their uses, and are good in emergencies, unless you are in every thriller or horror movie ever made. Then you can't get any service.
I won't even list all the things you can do with them, because you know what your cell phone is capable off. What I don't like is that you need one to log into your Social Security account, and now gmail too! What if I didn't have a cell phone? I mean, I could get along without one.
Unfortunately everybody is expected to have one. We miss the monthly phone bills that came in the mail. Now we have to buy one of those phone cards every so often, 60 days, I think. Unfortunately we now have to use Verizon. My wife spent hours trying to get it registered, or whatever you do. She even had to call their help desk via her ipad. We still don't know if they fixed it. I guess we'll find out the hard way.
So while my wife was complaining for the umpteenth time I said, partially in jest, that maybe we should get a burner phone. It seems that every drug dealer, criminal, dirty politician, and black ops guy has one. They use it a few times and throw it away. They make it look like it is easier to get one and use it than using two cans and a string!
Any ideas out there?

Shainlock We should talk. I worked for several places that sold cell phones and it was my job to do that and computer stuff. Also … I help out my parents and gparents w their stuff. I know how hard things have gotten. I’ll do what I can to help. I’m good at this stuff.

Shainlock Ok. I set them up. I was customer service for everything, for years and I am still with the same company. I know the ins and outs and what to say to get things done. I also have friends working at that company. I will help if you ever need it.

Petra X I get burners, tracfones. They are smartphones from about $40. They are hell to get registered so I get mine from Target, who do all that for you :-) They are easy to topup online though. I get them because I don't want a phone with a contract since I split my time between the US and Caribbean.
