Thanksgiving

Oh, the American Thanksgiving. Lots of food, drinks, and family. Most people look forward to this, I on the other hand dread every minute of it.
My mother is a saint, my father is a blessing, and my brothers and I don't have the best of relationships. Now, this isn't because of me being gay, it's because we have nothing in common. Our views on politics, gun control, abortion, etc etc. They enjoy hunting, fishing, and Nascar. While I enjoy, arts, reading, and dancing.
My extended family is obsessed with their status. They spend their time bragging about how much money they have spent on the latest trendy item to wear. Most of which I find it ridiculous to spend $700 on a pair of boots. Good for them to be able to afford that kind of item, I, on the other hand, would rather put that money in my savings or pay towards my student loans.
So while I sit in silence as the rest of the family talks about, insert boring item here, I think about my chosen family. I think about others that feel like outcasts within their own family and how I would much rather bring them together for a Thanksgiving gathering.
