To continue my larger theme of the eternal struggle of people seeking to create a better world, my next fiction will focus on the spirit of rebellion — what Marx called das Gespenst, the “specter” — carried on from the Paris Commune into the pan-European revolutionary discourse and movement of the late 19th and into the first decades of the 20th century, centered in the German-speaking lands but affecting the whole continent and, ultimately, the world — Communism, Naziism, and other upheavals.
