How do you start a book that is supposed to be a book of secrets?

If I haven’t already mentioned, The Hood Diaries is a series that follows a group of friends. It is told from the perspective of an unknown character who has filled the pages of their “diary” before deciding to release it as a book.

The opening of the book is a letter from our mystery author. It gives a bit of background into the story.
