The Troop by
Nick Cutter is a chilling story about a Scout troop cut off on an isolated island in the path of a highly infectious disease. The author does a great job of sketching the inner lives of multiple characters. Tension is added by providing the reader with information on events and context unknown to the characters. There's a cover quote from Stephen King lauding this horror novel. It was compulsively readable, athough horror is a genre I usually avoid.
In a novel about the apparent resurrection of a killer who abducted and tortured women - the age of his victims moving lower with each abduction,
Amy Suiter Clarke offers many twists. Again, the story is layered with information, this time mixing past and present, which increase the tension and kept me racing through
Girl, 11. The book made me think about what our publicity of serial killings does to victims, the public, and the police. A chilling, fast read.
