Great time in Nebraska
I'm just back from the Norfolk Literary Festival in Norfolk, Nebraska. Flew into Omaha, and then drove north. Beautiful countryside! I had no idea Nebraska was so green and rolling. The folks at the Norfolk Library were terrific. I had some talented kids in my workshop -- we had lots of fun writing and sharing what we wrote. I found out from our host that Norfolk is where Johnny Carson grew up. We drove by his old house and heard stories about his favorite teacher from grade school. On my last night we drove back to Omaha to have dinner before my flight out. What a lovely city! Thanks to the Norfolk Library folks for making my time there so special.

It's been a while...
Wow, I guess it's been a while since I've had a blog! Looking back over the last things I posted (quite a few) years ago, makes me realize how much I miss giving updates about my work and what I'm doi

The biggest news...I have a new YA novel coming out soon! "Wrecked" (Caitlyn Dlouhy Books/Simon and Schuster) hits stores March 15, 2022! Like my very first YA novel ("Making the Run," HarperCollins, 2001), "Wrecked" is set in rural Kentucky and it deals with some heavy issues, like drug abuse, but it's also about first love and family and friendship. And something more...but I'll reveal that at a later date.
I really hope readers connect with Miri, Fen, and Clay, three 16-18 year olds, who tell the story from their three different points of view. I hope the story resonates with readers who are interested in a gritty view of life in a rural America where sometimes drugs appear to be the only way out. More soon!
