I know Him

To know Jesus is my ultimate desire. It is what I long for and what I strive after.

1 John 2:3 says "And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments." The word "know" here is the greek word ginōskō which means to know, understand, or acknowledge. This can be used to describe having knowledge of something in the simplest of forms or in the most complex. John gives us a simple way to gauge our relationship with the Lord by whether or not we are following the Lord's commands.

He tells us if we know where our relationship stands with God based on how well we follow the commands He gives us. This statement is reflecting on what Jesus said in John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

A relationship with God really is this simple. Do we love Him? Are we keeping His commandments?

No one can answer this question for you, and we cannot answer it for someone else. We must answer it honestly and for ourselves alone. This isn't to say that we don't need someone else to instruct us in God's commandments or to help us come to a better understanding of what these commands are. We need people who "have been there and have done that".

To know Him is to know His Word, and to keep His Word.
