The Big Drive
This is one of my most favorite smaller books that I had published twice. The first time was through readers Digest in 1967 as a young Junior High (Intermediate school). I won Editors Choice Award for best original story. The book was then Published by Amazon and Kindle. 2023. The synopsis of the story entails this. Based on a true story of actual events. My dad and I went logging in his 1947 Diamond Reo logging truck. We went to the top of the mountain in Fredonia, Arizona. We were loading and dad warned to hang on tight because when the crane dropped the very large trees (3) onto the semi trailer it would bounce the truck so hard that I left my seat and hit the inside roof of the cab, While dad was securing the load with chains and turnbuckles a chain broke and came flying over the top of the load and hit dad right between the eyes knocking off his feet and unconscious. With some help in and out of consciousness we got blocks taped to the pedals of the truck dad called ole Betsy. I drove my first semi truck when I was 8 years old from the top of the mountain (leaving the mapped out logging road) several times and hit a huge rock which threw me onto the right path. I was stopped y the Fredonia Sheriff in town and was guided to the hospital where I saved my fathers life. Later after he was healed he changed Ole Betsy name to Anderson and Sons Trucking. The funny part of the end of this story is that the place where I hit the big rock throwing me back on track , my dad painted a large Bandaid over the spot and wrote OUCH! on top of the Bandaid. I hope you will read on Kindle free and tell me what you liked or disliked about my award winning story turned to book.
