The Main Event

Back for another round of election related adventures is that election officer odd couple, Carl Marsden and Cindy Phelps.

Carl and Cindy enter 2020 knowing that there will be a spirited contest for the presidency. This proves to be a gross understatement as a rapid succession of events challenges them as never before. Old priorities and assumptions are discarded as they learn to live with a pandemic, confront emotional turmoil on the streets of the nation’s capital, and witness a climate of ever increasing political hostility.

Against this backdrop of chaos and confusion their personal lives threaten to unravel, mimicking the scene on the national stage. Somehow they need to regain their footing, discern what is important, and focus on the ever changing electoral complexities as the main event, Campaign 2020, rushes to its dramatic conclusion.

The Main Event is a tale of frustration and anger; of faith and perseverance; and ultimately of trust; trust that the sanctity and power of the voting booth are things that are both worthy and attainable.

The Main Event is the fourth installment in the Gatekeepers of Democracy series of novels that celebrate Election Day and the men and women who make it happen. It may be read as part of the series or as a standalone novel.
