Sunrise

My love,

We saw the sun set and rise before we slept.

The aching dawn creeping round the edges of the curtains

An echo of those tiny hands reaching for me

Time

And

Time

Again.

The light feels harsh on my eyes, which crave the darkness of sleep,

But gentle on my skin, which delights in the closeness of you.

Your nighttime cries still sound in my ears

My heart still aches for the tiny sadness I couldn’t fix

But could only sit inside with you until it soothed away with our togetherness.

You are calm now.

Your soft sleeping sounds my own lullaby.

And I drift whilst the world wakes.
