A New Beginning
It's late June 2023. I'm sitting in a grade 2 listed shed in Lulworth Cove on the Jurassic Coast in England; it's a cafe. My coffee is hot and my cake is delicious.
I've had a major re-think with everything in my life after 15 years of working as a chiropractor. I felt a need to change.
And so, I bought a sailboat, and I have decided to live on it for one year sailing around the UK and Ireland, and maybe winter in the Mediterranean or Morocco. Follow me on YouTube:

And during that time I'm going to concentrate on my writing career.
It's been seven years since I published my first novel – it was called Toby Fisher and The Arc Light. I was so proud of myself when I pressed publish ... and I still am. However, it has been a steep learning curve over that time, over the ten years since I first started writing.
One of the most rewarding things I have ever experienced is reading the reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. Readers seemed to love the books, but something never quite felt right for me. And like any restless writer – probably –, I returned to each book and fiddled with the story, the book cover, the editing ... everything.
Last year, I stepped away from the urban fantasy genre and wrote a thriller. I haven't published it yet (I will do). It was one of the most eye opening experiences I've yet done. What I mean is that the process of writing this book got me to take a hard look at how I structured the plot, the characters, the suspense, and how to reduce some of the fundamental writing errors I had made with the fantasy series.
I'll write about the thriller soon.
This blog is about my ultimate writing passion: Toby Fisher and the Red Dragon series:
The modern day fantasy series has never found momentum in sales, and I've had to take a hard look at what I was doing. Was it the marketing or was it the quality in writing?
It's hard to say but both had room for improvement.
And I feel the books deserve a bigger audience.
So, what have I done now?
Well, I sat down with some friends and asked for their honest opinion on the books with one question: why are they not selling in their thousands?
It's not always a good idea to ask friends and family for feedback - often they are not that honest. Usually, it's because they don't want to hurt your feelings.
But these friends of mine are hard core. And yes, they're still my friends.
They said:
"The imagery is great."
"The premise is fantastic, everyone loves a King Arthur story, but where is King Arthur and Merlin ..."
"And what happened to the ghost?"
"There are too many unanswered threads."
"And it's inconsistent."
For example: in the first book, The Ghost's Revenge, the ghost is pretty non-existent throughout the second half of the book.
I've been writing for ten years and publishing for seven years. I've written over two million words – I have a lot of material – and I have learnt so much working with editors and listening to feedback.
And that leads me to the subject of this blog:
The new edition of the Red Dragon series.
The new editions will start with the re-release of The Ghost's Revenge with more twists and turns, new characters as well as the great old ones, and the general's fate; or maybe Toby's fate?
Dive into a modern day fantasy and turn King Arthur's legendary story upside down in the Red Dragon series! When three modern teenagers are tasked with thwarting Merlin's doom filled prophecy, they lead the charge of the Red Dragon army.
But they must first find King Arthur, the only one who can inspire victory in the final battle.
The journey to find the fated king is filled with quests, the best of Arthurian characters, plot twists, and a fantasy world with elves, dragons, and ghosts.
In the first book of the series, The Ghost's Revenge, the teenagers must find the gold lost in the Battle of Minack, face flesh eating sirens, a deadly trial for their lives, and then they must protect their home from an invading army of mer-soldiers.
If you enjoyed the adventures of Harry Potter, the wit of Terry Pratchett, and the magic of Ben Aaronovitch, you'll love the Red Dragon series!
