Here's a summary of The Shape of Normal

The Shape of Normal is a memoir about raising a girl with severe cognitive disabilities but more universally it's a collage of motherhood and domestic life. After all, what mother doesn't have expectations for what lies ahead? After her daughter's diagnosis, Cathy struggles to accept a picture of motherhood that looks very different from the "perfect" life she had planned. Deep in denial, she is convinced her daughter can be "fixed" with just the right amount of devotion and single-mindedness. Haunted by guilt and shame, Cathy has to learn the lesson of acceptance before she realizes her daughter is not broken. For many years she told herself that she was on a hero’s journey to save her child but really, the one she needed to save was herself.

Marlene Dunham Cathy, I have just finished The Shaoe of Normal. So much I could relate to. I did not have a disabled child, but I did have a disabled brother (plus a schizophrenic sister and Bipolar father). I just published my first book about that.
I also had twin girls, with a third girl two years older, so SO much of the jockeying in life was so relatable - and then to add Jessica to the mix - I could only see my own mother in this story. It was courageous to write. and I can hear in your voice that writing it has freed you from a lot. Congratulations.

Catherine Shields Hi Marlene,
Thank you so much for your message! This is my first book, and I will check yours out. If you could post a review on Amazon and here on Goodreads (if you didn't already) that would be really helpful. I am learning as I go along, what I must do to publicize this book and get it out there. Sent you a friend request!
