Realignment
As I mentioned in my previous post, I'm in the last stage of prepping my first serialized novel to launch on Kindle Vella sometime in September. For me, that means doing my own line & copy editing, as well as proofreading—yes, dear reader, I've chosen not to hire an editor at any stage of my self-publishing journey so far. I actually looked into it, but considering budget restraints & my lack of knowledge of that aspect of the indie author world, I decided to put on my own editor's hat & have at it.
I'm happy to report that during the past month, there's been a slight uptick in response to Pearl Fields and the Oregon Meltdown in the form of more pages read on Kindle Unlimited & another 5-star rating that nudged the overall ratings in a positive direction on both Amazon (3.7) & Goodreads (4.0). It may not seem like much compared to other authors, but my attitude has continued to be that every step counts.
My initial reaction to that positive trend made me realize I'm not as far down the road of releasing my attachment to that novel's publishing voyage as I'd like to imagine. Last spring, I posted at some length about my foray into the self-publishing/self-advertising world as a way to share some of my experiences & to help myself keep perspective on how too much attachment can distract from the tasks at hand.
Now I'm coming to accept that what I thought was a fading attachment to that novel still resonates. In addition, I'm coming to terms with my struggles to keep what's best described as a low-level presence on social media.
With all that comes what I hope will be a more realistic realignment of my expectations as I make my way through these last few weeks of preparing to launch my newest endeavor.
As always, I'll keep you posted.
