Lessons of self publishing 1

The experience of writing and self publishing has been and eye opening one.
I wrote Horse Trouble on my phone saved to email drafts while on breaks at work. It was a way I could pursue writing while staying employed and not miss moments of inspiration. Once I had 160k words I transferred it to pages and started editing. It turned out pages wasn’t a good tool for this so Word was added to my laptop and I set about the third pass through my story.
After talking to a few authors I than added ProWriter, this is was both good and bad. Good because once I figured out how to use it, the program was helpful. Bad because now I realize it over edits in some areas and not enough in others. It’s a learning curve I am still on as I start editing book two in the series.
Most of my reviews point out the success of writing a good story and the failure of good editing. I wish the funding was there for a professional editor but at .03 to .04 per word I just don’t have the money, yet. Hopefully someday I can reach a place where I write, rough edit and than pass the responsibility of real editing off to someone who knows what they are doing. Either way hopefully my editing skills will continue to improve alongside my writing letting my voice be heard.
Thanks for the time, hopefully I’ll be adding more to this as time passes.
