Update, Dammit
The first draft of Slabscape: Dammit is now fully marked-up. Every page is covered with notes, deletions, questions and embarrassments. I'm disappointed that words don't fall magically onto the page perfectly formed and brilliant. Disappointed, but not surprised. Re-write starts today.
Meanwhile, I'm happy to report that Slabscape: Reset is growing in sales. Many thanks to all the Goodreads reviewers - it might surprise you to know that these really help (especially me when I look at the rubbish I've written in the first draft and indulge in the bouts of self-doubt and hand-wringing that commonly haunt the creative act). If any of you have Amazon accounts and feel like posting your review to there, you'll be helping even more.
I'm considering posting here about my process. Many people have asked how I write and while I certainly can't stand up and say with any great authority that I know exactly how to do it, I can at least describe what I've learned so far and what I'm continuing to learn. It's hard. A lot harder than I'd anticipated but I think the task is getting fractionally easier and the results slightly better - albeit too slowly and too slight for my tastes.
So, if you're interested in hearing about my trials, frustrations and failings (doesn't that sound inviting!) let me know.
