What genre are these books?
Greetings all, I'm a new author here, just set up my profile, and obviously want to promote what I think are extraordinary books. I wasn't sure how they would be received as they were not written for an audience, but as a gift for my (now adult) daughters, as well as the manifestation of something that has been brewing inside me for decades.
I have just had my first reviews back from the online book club and both are 5 star and extremely reassuring - it looks like they may have popular appeal after all.
The first thing I've struggled with, however, is the genre. I've been asked to classify them here as part of my author profile, but I really cannot say with any certainty.
Why?
Well, they are part autobiographical for a start.
They are definitely fiction, on the other hand.
They are an adventure story, set in the present but with strong links to the historical (mainly classical Mediterranean) past.
They are rich in Greek and Roman mythology.
They also serve as part travel guide, as they are set in (and I use the excuse to describe) some of my favourite places in the world.
They are definitely literary with numerous intertextual influences and references (from Homer to Jorge Luis Borges, from Dante to Dan Brown).
They are very interested in the concepts of the Sacred and the Profane (see Mircea Eliade).
They are a bit of a personal photo album.
They even contain a few recipes...
But at heart they are an adventure story.
So I would like reviews, of course, but also an answer to my question as to in which genre I should be categorising them.
Happy to engage with anyone who wants to!
