The F*CKING SCAMS lately! ALERT FOR FOLKS!

Honestly, fuck scammers, though. I’ve given some personal information to them lately, nothing that isn’t public and that would compromise my account, though. This time around I actually fell for someone who thought I looked nice.
Ugh. Crazy, right? I should have let my low-ass self-esteem win out, because typically if someone is complimenting how I look enough to ‘do art’ of me, it’s just a scam. Sorry to be a downer, I’m just super pissy at the moment about it. It seems like ANY time I’m complimented on my looks or work, it leads to a FUCKING scam. Makes me wonder what the bloody point is anymore.
My depression and extreme mood swings aside, though, (which I am getting therapy for, I promise), you should be made aware of these scams. Now, I did give the name of the bank I use, but I contacted said bank after this went down and was assured they can’t get into my account with that info.
Your name, number, and address are public information, which is annoying but not technically something they can use to get into your account. You must NEVER give your social security number, routing number, or account number. Seems straight forward, but there’s rabbit holes they can drag you down if you’re not careful.
Given recent job scams I’ve dealt with lately, when they asked for my phone number and said nope to email, that’s when I knew something was up big time. They also started talking like a scammer. Take a look.

Okay yes, I got super aggressive and bitchy at the end there, but I deserve to be able to be a complete asshole for once in my life toward people like this. I’m so tired of being nice to people who don’t deserve it, you know? Anyhow, this is the link I found to realize this nonsense was in fact a scam.
These comments on that reddit thread summarize my thoughts well:

Just…ugh. It feels so shitty. Anyhow, if someone starts calling me ‘dear’ and they’re a stranger, I get red flags. Do NOT. FUCKING. CALL ME. ‘DEAR’. I will immediately have a red flag pinged. Aside from that, their insistence that this wasn’t a scam was also a red flag. You start to learn the way they speak. It’s unbelievable, I watch Atomic Shrimp, who does scambaiting stuff, and STILL FELL FOR THIS NONSENSE! LIKE SERIOUSLY!
Okay. But there’s an even WORSE scam I fell for and almost gave my social to. Why? That’s because it’s a fucking JOB SCAM. I’ve been looking for remote positions because I don’t have a car and can type at 91 wpm. I need sustainable income, because my attempt to grow as a voice actress on fiverr has not been doing anything for me. I can’t get sustainable income from it despite me really trying hard to become an audiobook narrator. That, and no matter how hard I market my dystopic fantasy series, no one seems interested in my books, including my audiobooks. Or at least, not enough to even go above twenty bucks a month. I sincerely don’t want to get rich, I just want to BLOODY be able to sustain myself. Anyway, once again, I’ll put my bitching aside so I can alert you to this shit.
My resume is on Indeed, and this is how these assholes are getting my information, contacting me regarding fake jobs. I got a text about it and I thought since I was applying to many jobs, and they said they got my info through indeed, it was legitimate. Spoiler: It WAS NOT.

UGH I FEEL LIKE SUCH AN IDIOT THOUGH. It is so obvious from the very beginning how much this is a scam, and yet I did give my name and address. Which mind you is public info but still not good. I was so desperate for a job because I’m frustrated with not having an income that I ignored the red flags. They offered a decent pay. If it’s too good to be true, it FUCKING IS.
I mean, this person gave a different name than their screen name. The company they described was completely different from what was on the website – and since it was a science-like website, I got excited and figured they were just another wing of the company or something. I want to work in the sciences, after all, and it seemed like a company trying to make a good difference in the world through science.
Also, obviously, the misspellings, random bolds, and just odd way of speaking should have given it away. The interview being text only. Them being like “ARE YOU READY TO KNOW IF YOU GOT THE JOB” was SUPER unprofessional. There’s just so many red flags I ignored until they said they’re sending me a BUNCH of junk that I wouldn’t need because they literally asked if I had the requirements in the beginning. Oof.
I verified this was a scam right then with this website. If it had gone farther, they could have baited me into giving my social.
So yeah… these scams are out of fucking control and kicking people when they’re down even when job searching. I’m becoming more and more numb and jaded, and frustrated in general. Fuck these scammers, they can rot.
Ugh. If you want to support me though, as an author or voice actor, visit my vocal demos (and then services on this website), or my fiverr, or check out my book The Dancing Crow, a vampire horror. You can also subscribe to this blog where I usually give creative writing ideas for dark fantasy, such as this article: Dissecting Vampire Powers: Ideas for use in your worldbuilding.
Also… stay safe out there. Be vigilant. If you get a suspicious message, look it up. Don’t be me and ignore red flags. Thankfully I didn’t get compromised and all that, but my gods I was close because I was an idiot. It can happen to anyone. Even if you think you are in the know.
Check out The Dancing Crow audiobook, where I recently rerecorded my lines and sound awesome. It’s a vampire horror audiobook, dual perspective with a male vampire MC.
