A Remarkable Journey
It's been a while since I've updated folks on Anything for Terresa and this publishing process has been simultaneously frustrating, rewarding, and educational (and sometimes surprising).
First, I have to confess, I didn't listen. People told me that self-published books typically sell less than $1,000/year. But, I thought to myself, they haven't read MY book. What I wasn't hearing was this: no one knows your book is out there.
Unfortunately, I worked with a publisher who didn't "do" pre-sales. However, in hindsight, this probably was not the thing holding me back from the NYT best seller list.
I did the stuff I read about: Goodreads Giveaway (excellent resource), some in-person events (with mixed results), as well as some stuff I thought would propel me into being a household name: I spent a small fortune creating media content, purchasing eyeballs for said content, and created a website.
It did not.
So I ask whoever stumbles upon this blog, what's next? Do I work my book into casual conversations at the bank/pool/doctors/grocery/red lights? Do I become that zealot chasing neighbors around insisting they buy a copy? Will family and friends have to awkwardly unwrap my book at EVERY holiday and occasion?
Maybe my grandkids can give them as wedding favors.
Yet, I remain hopeful.
