Time in Pnumadesi

Curious about how time passes on Pnumadesi? Well, wonder no longer!

Having been manufactured by the gods as a road map of their universe, Pnumadesi is a perfectly round world on a perfect axis around its sun. This gives it 24 hours in a day, 360 days a year.

Months are as exact as the days, with the 4 seasons each getting exactly 3. As a result, the calendar used by scholars to track the passing of time is designated by what part of the season they're in as well as the day. The first day of Spring is the first of the year.

Seasons are turned into months as (for example) Spring, MidSpring, and EndSpring. Important events, such as the midsummer festival are easy to track since the month is called MidSummer.

Here's a bit of a preview of the timeline as it has gone along so far in the novels.

- Zen was born on the 15th day of Fall in the year 1500 FB (FB = years after the disappearance of the Forgotten Bard).

- Arawn's Quest takes place between when he leaves the Black Forest on the 23rd day of EndSpring and the 27th day of Fall, 1515.

- On the 1st day of MidFall, 1515, Emily turns 18.

- Arawn was born in the second week of MidSpring. because of the time difference between the Black Forest and the rest of Pnumadesi, it's impossible for any common person to peg the day down exactly.

- Katrina's birthday is on the 29th day of Midwinter.

- All Children of Destiny have some significance about their birthday that also corresponds with something in the world. What year(s) that happens on is often unknown since they can't be easily found in the Book of the Forgotten Bard.
