Detours & Shortcuts

Not a day goes by that I don't see some reference or other to the mystical "writing process" on social media & in random ads, stories, or videos—often with a definitive the in tow. I'm the first to admit to occasionally giving unsolicited advice on a range of other topics, as well as seeking out divergent takes on writing (see my earlier blogs Zen in the Art of Writing & Dreyer's English).

However, I like to imagine I never mix the two.

On a walk the other day, though, I started wondering if someone reading these posts might instead view them as a clunky attempt to offer just such unsolicited advice. After all, they do focus on various & sundry aspects of self-publishing. No surprise there since I like to keep my own experiences in perspective when it comes to stumbling through the chaotic landscape of indie authorship.

Writing these posts feels like I'm just journaling my way along toward the next fork in the decision road.

Of course, if by shining a soft light on some of the joys & pitfalls along the way, I point out a decent detour or a shortcut to a writer new to the indie author world, then all the better.

Until next time.
