5 Interesting Things #15

Well hello there.

Time again for five interesting things: stuff you might find intriguing, share worthy, and/or actionable. Or even just cool.

Hand to mouth no more? – There are signs that population growth is slowing (and that’s a good thing for sustainability) but we still have a lot of people to feed. How can we do so in a way that doesn’t break the planet? Technological advances will help. This Hard Reset video covers the latest and greatest.

Fast conversions – If we’re going to stop cooking the planet, we need to address how we move around. The best thing would be for a lot of people to do a lot more walking and biking, but that’s not always possible or practical. The next best thing would be better, more reliable public transit. Finally, we have decarbonizing personal travel via electric vehicles. This German firm has worked out a way to quickly convert a number of existing fossil car models to EVs. This is a win win, because it makes use of existing resources and takes the fossil fuel drive train out.

Sunday Doughnuts – A great curation newsletter covering business, health, parenting and entrepreneurship. As long time readers know, parenting + being an entrepreneur is a topic close to the heart.

Doomscroll antidote – The news, by nature, is usually gloomy. The old phrase “if it bleeds, it leads” has always been true in journalism. But in an era where we have some truly big problems to solve, it’s REALLY important to take stock of our wins. This summary from Information is Beautiful shows us where we got it right.

Garbage Day – I’ve also been enjoying this newsletter which bills itself as being about the Internet. A better description would be how the Internet affects culture on and offline. There’s a free and a paid version.
