Review of The Pendulum

Got my first review from an account called avidreader_critic (beer and books) on Instagram which I paid for so I’m being honest. It was an excellent review considering the reviewer highlighted some of the things I’d put lots of effort into but was unsure whether it would resonate with readers. I can confirm after this review and feedback from other people I’ve talked to is that I have done the pacing, charcaterisation and harsh depictions of a society consuming itself very effectively. Please tell me your thoughts if you’ve read the book otherwise links are available on this page.
Title: The Pendulum by J.L. Whitton
My Ratings - 4.9/5
J.L. Whitton's "The Pendulum" thrusts readers into a tumultuous world of global unrest, where the birth of the United Republic of the Southern Continent offers a glimmer of hope amidst chaos. Through the eyes of protagonist Ally Rose, a compelling French immigrant and Facilitator, Whitton intricately weaves a narrative of intrigue, betrayal, and the fight for freedom.
Set against the backdrop of a society teetering on the brink of tyranny, Ally and her accomplice Portia D’Amico navigate a treacherous landscape where every decision carries weighty consequences. Whitton masterfully crafts a web of conspiracy that ensnares not only the protagonists but also the very fate of the fledgling United Republic.
As the plot unfolds, readers are drawn deeper into Ally's world, where allegiances are tested and loyalties questioned. The dynamic between Ally and her fellow Facilitator, Osiris, adds layers of complexity to the narrative, as they find themselves embroiled in a daring scheme to topple the oppressive Rico dictatorship.
Whitton's prose is both evocative and thought-provoking, painting a vivid portrait of a society grappling with its own demons. The pacing is relentless, driving the narrative forward with a sense of urgency that keeps readers on the edge of their seats until the final page.
"The Pendulum" is a gripping tale of resilience and rebellion, offering a timely exploration of power, corruption, and the enduring struggle for freedom. With its richly drawn characters and pulse-pounding plot, Whitton's novel is sure to captivate readers from start to finish.
