Holi: Good Clean Fun!

We’re in Vrindavana - it’s not just a break to another country, but an entrance to another reality. Here, they say, every step is a dance, every word a song, and every day a festival! Today we played ‘Holi’ - the festival of colours! It’s an ancient tradition, going back to the time of Krishna, who showed the world how to have good clean fun! Ancient Vedic tales point to several lessons behind this joyous occasion, helping us orientate our lives in more colourful directions.

What is life without colour? Colours remind us of the beautiful diversity that surrounds us, all of which can be combined and utilised to generate spirituality and goodness in words, thoughts and acts. Colours represent vitality and freshness, reminding us to embody that energy, enthusiasm and inspiration so we wake up with the hunger for life. Colours mean creativity, reminding us that we always have the power to paint new scenery in the journey of our lives.

For one hour we threw colours from our hands, sang mantras from the heart, danced barefooted high into the air, became children again, momentarily forgetting the complexity of our ethereal existence. We realised that people try so hard to be happy, making unlimited arrangements and working painstakingly hard. Yet, in these moments, we experienced good clean fun - unique happiness in celebrating the colour of life and the beauty of spiritual connection.
