Silent Shackles
Thank you for joining me on this first blog post, Worthy of Rescue, Pursued by God.
Today I will be talking about silent shackles and whispered voices in our lives. How do they influence us today? From our past? And thus how do they shape the lives that we create?
Our identity is a tapestry woven from numerous voices that surround us. Our family, our friends, the media, the authoritative figures … all of these have taken residence in our lives in one way or the other.
These voices direct us either toward a virtuous moral path or down a false trajectory of survival, often spiraling out of control until we find ourselves unrecognizable.
Voices have often shaped our awareness, creating a self-identity that is partially built upon our dreams, yet often obscured by this facade that we present to the world.
In the deepest core of our being, our hearts, we consistently grapple with two fundamental questions of life.
Who am I?
To whom do I belong?
There are deceitful whispers from our circumstances, our choices, and our memories, that try to convince us that we are isolated, worthless because of our past errors, or unworthy of any type of redemption.
Voices that say you are alone. Your bad choices and your mistakes make you of no value. You have no essential benefit to the world, and thus you are not worthy of the cost or the effort to be rescued.
Oh no, this is not the entire truth of who we are or who we were created to be. Regardless of how damaged, frightened, we may feel, or how broken we have become, God will shatter the lies propagated by these damaging and negative voices in and around us.
God empathizes with us when we grieve over the choices that we've made in life. He has never been disappointed in us and through His perfect love for us, He has made a way of redemption.
When the questions echoed by the voices of humanity since the dawn of creation are answered, we then can truly know who we are.
The creation of the universe, the Earth, the plants and all living creatures culminated in the formation of mankind in the image of Elohim, of God on the 6th day, as it's discussed in the Book of Genesis 1. Verse 27.
So God created mankind in his own image in the image of God, he created them male and female. He created them.
With this knowledge, we can understand to whom we belong … to God. Made in his unique image, distinct from everything on Earth, everything below, anything else in the universe or in heaven!
Armed with this awareness, we can inquire into and comprehend God's plans and purposes for our lives now . . . Here on the earth . . . And into eternity.
Journey with me in future blog posts as we delve further into what has shaped our self-identity. I will share stories of myself and others who have listened to these whispered voices in our past.
We've walked through the wilderness and brokenness. But we have found the answer to the age-old question of who am I? And to whom do I belong?
