- Being a butcher wasn't all bad, sure it was messy work and it often meant long hours. None of it mattered much to me, it was work I enjoyed. It kept me within a routine, routine was what kept people sane and in alignment. Patterns though; Patterns got people like me killed. My little deer followed a pattern, that was why she was on my table tonight.
