Honoring pride month

Quick thoughts on what it means to me. It’s not a privilege folks – it’s a human right.

Pride

The grace that allows two shaking hands to intertwine

Not in the darkest recesses of night

Not under the veil of secrecy

But in the bright light of day

Not in the back alleys where dreams go to die

But from rooftops bearing witness to the dawn

Permission granted for a heart to burst open like a ripe fig

Spilling onto a chest so congested by bigotry, the sweetness of love

Not in corners of shame

But in the beautiful chaos of bustling city centres

Not in quiet, sickening solitary

But in loud welcoming solace

License to show up in ones truest nature

Not a sliver of a second anticipating wrath

Not in the mirror of doubt

But in the reflection of the likeness of the soul

No hesitation

Only conviction

Birthing the hope of growing old and grey

Not in the echo of emptiness

But in the cacophony of laughter

Not in cold, dark spaces

But in the embrace of another

Equally free from fear and hate
