I'm excited to share that "Uno Takes Flight" is currently in review! As I've been working on this story, Amaya's character has started to grow on me. She's a curious and insightful young girl, and her bilingual diaries are a wonderful way to capture her sharp observations of the natural world.

"Uno Takes Flight" is the sequel to "Wings of a Color". In this new book, we follow Amaya as she continues her journey to becoming a balanced Spanish-English bilingual. Through her diaries, she not only expands her knowledge but also develops the language of science by recording her observations. This story is especially dear to me because it’s inspired by my own experiences watching cardinals raise their chicks in the hedges outside my home year after year.

A few years ago, I posted about the real "Uno," a fledgling cardinal who had a close call when he hit his head on my windowpane. For what felt like an incredibly long fifteen minutes, he lay there looking lifeless, and I felt the same panic his parents did. Thankfully, he eventually revived, and I spent the rest of the day watching over him to protect him from the many vultures in the area. This experience left a lasting impression on me, and I knew it was a story I wanted to share.

In "Uno Takes Flight", Amaya's diary entries bring this story to life, blending her observations with her bilingual skills and love for the natural world. It’s a narrative that celebrates scientific curiosity, the beauty of language, and the importance of understanding and protecting our environment.
