The Thirteenth Rabbit
If you ride horses long enough, you hear the parable of the thirteenth rabbit, usually to explain why an otherwise steady, reliable mount lost his little horsey marbles over “nothing.” The story goes something like this:
You’re riding along on a familiar trail and a bunny darts across the path. Your horse, who can’t see very well at ground level, stops short, maybe hops a bit, and is reluctant to go forward. You gently convince this half-ton prey animal that what he half-saw was not a copperhead...

"Thirteenth Rabbit" event - I've lived it when I was in 3rd grade, pony frightened by movement in bush, went running off with me, I fell off & broke my left femur. Now, you might be thinking, but I tell you it was strange "thirteenth rabbit" event - in ER - X-rays exposed I had rare inherited bone disease would not be detected if not for scared pony runny off with me & my fateful fall. I continue to love horses & pones, rabbits too, & my rare bone disease entered me into new group of persons with same bone disease - new family.

One of those losing/but really winning moments in life. Wish you hadn't had to ride a runaway to get the diagnosis though!
