8/15/24 - Crystal Avarice

Welcome to the WymerNovels blog. Today, I will be discussing my seventh book, Crystal Avarice.

Crystal Avarice
is a novel length book with 74,324 words.

When I was eleven, I created a comic story that I called Wilcox Brown, Private Investigator. There were mysteries to be solved and Wilcox Brown was the man to do it. Other than myself, the only other person that probably saw my comic was my mother. I had some influence with a variety of mystery shows on television in the late 1970s and early 1980s. A few years later, I began reading a lot of mystery novels. At the time, it was my favorite genre. One of my favorite novels was The Green Turtle Mystery by Ellery Queen, Jr. Since I write science fiction space opera, but wanted to write a mystery, I combined the two genres. Wilcox Brown has been resurrected from my comic in my new space opera mystery novel, Crystal Avarice.

Crystal Avarice
is a space opera mystery. Private investigator Wilcox Brown and his investigative assistant, Nancy Louray, are thrown into one of the strangest mysteries they’ve ever had to solve. When a client hires them to locate the missing deed to a planet, a dangerous and daring galactic adventure ensues.

Wilcox Brown is a private investigator who is hired by Coradelle Hershall to locate the missing deed to a planet that should have been part of her inheritance. Wilcox and his investigative assistant, Nancy Louray, are thrown into one of the strangest mysteries they’ve ever had to solve.

The client’s representative at the Settlement Agency is of little help when they are told there is no such planet. A major clue leads them to odd skeletal remains of an alien species and the discovery of fascinating crystals. But when the client goes missing, they begin to lose hope in solving the case.

Wilcox is asked to join in a military investigation into the deaths of the Sharrixian aliens that were found. Representatives for the Settlement Agency are confronted regarding mysterious crystals being sold on the black market.

Across the galaxy, the Sharrixian queen empress runs out of patience with the humans and declares war, but one of the aliens in high command is doing his best to maintain peace.

When those responsible for the Sharrixian deaths are discovered, will it be too late? After Coradelle learns who is behind the crystal avarice, will she even care about the missing deed?

At the end of Crystal Avarice, there is an appendix with a terminology glossary of all terms that were created for the story, brief explanations of each, and what chapter they first appear in.

The book cover depicts the portal, near the Crystal Field, on the Sharrixian home planet of Lairdain Tannis. The blue, purple, and black crystals can be seen in the desert sand. The night sky is filled with a tapestry of stars. Through the top of the portal, a slight glimpse of the forest can be seen in the daylight of the planet Staraliss.
