Let's talk plot summary!
When asked which part of the book was the most challenging for the author, the answer was "The Blurb." This is not surprising. Condensing a large plot with the characters' storylines into just a few paragraphs becomes a real challenge.
Here's our first shot Dijon Mustard: Part I. Europe - International Spy Thriller:
Book Blurb (a brief, enticing summary of a book's plot, but with a few paragraphs):
"Dijon Mustard" isn’t just a codename buried in the French National Security Service archives; it’s a ticking time bomb of secrets and fates. Documents dismissed as trivial—obtained from the Lord’s Resistance Army in 2005—resurface 15 years later, catching the eye of French agent Marie Duval. Inside is evidence of the devastating consequences of the USA-Soviet nuclear arms race, threatening to bring the world to the brink of catastrophe.
The key players? British and French intelligence, the Ugandan People's Defense Forces, the shadowy Russian group known as "Argus," a physicist, and a band of ruthless, tattooed mercenaries—all with their motives in the high-stakes game of global security.
From Kehl to Paris, Dijon, Strasbourg, Kampala, and the islands of Lake Victoria, the story spans Europe and Africa, revealing deep-rooted political and cultural conflicts along the way.
Enter legendary agent Michael Crow, dreaming of his first peaceful vacation. However, the mystery of "Dijon Mustard" has other plans, and Crow must act fast to prevent global stability from unraveling.
Logline (a concise, compelling one-sentence summary that captures the essence of a book, the whole plot in one bite):
Legendary agent Michael Crow's vacation is shattered as he's pulled into the 'Dijon Mustard' mystery, racing across continents to stop a nuclear catastrophe.
What's your take on this rundown?
Did it hook you, and which version - long or short - grabs you more?
Also, writing a description for Amazon is a completely different story, which I'll share in future posts.
