The results from Dixville Notch are the first known results of this year’s US presidential election. Six villagers cast their votes – and when they were counted, it turned out that the election ended in a tie: Kamala Harris got three votes, Donald Trump three.

In 2020, in Dixville Notch, which is traditionally the first place to vote in the US, just after midnight on Election Day, Joe Biden clearly won, receiving all five votes cast in the village at the time.

Dixville Notch is the first in the US to vote since 1960. Then millionaire Neil Tillotson, not wanting to waste an hour traveling to the nearest polling place, found a loophole in the law that allowed him to organize voting on his own estate. A maximum of 38 votes were cast here (in 1988).

In the past, midnight voting has been held at two other locations in New Hampshire – Harts Location and Millfield. In this year’s election, however, only Dixville Notch voted at midnight in New Hampshire.
