Everyblood vessel in my body seemed to pulse and tingle in waves in time to myheartbeat. I started to wish for a distraction.

Asif sensing my mood, Rowan gave me one. Lacing his fingers together behind hishead, he leaned back in his chair and stretched his long legs out in front ofhim. The pose accented the thick bulge of his biceps and the contrast betweenthe width of his shoulders and his narrow waist. Muscle flexed under the softfabric.

Ishifted, uncomfortable, need surging in my blood.

Hesaid absolutely nothing. Just sat there, radiating sex.

Theminutes oozed by. I started to feel naked, fully dressed or not. More even thanI had back at the club dressing room, confronting him in nothing but a pair ofpasties and a G-string. Then, I hadn’t known how it would feel to make love tohim.

Iwanted him. Wanted him as much as I had in the transport when we’d madesizzling love. I’d always felt impatient with male lust, with the need todiscourage customers from getting handsy while trying not to hurt them. It waslike fending off an amorous egg.

Ididn’t have to worry about that with Rowan. Good thing, too, because the lastthing I wanted to do was fend him off.

Rowan’snostrils flared, and I knew he smelled my arousal.

Mymouth went dry. I crossed my legs and looked away, unable to hold his gaze anylonger. “So… We’re supposed to be partners,” I said.

“Yes,”he said, his voice deep and rough, the faintest trace of a growl underneath it.Or maybe that was a purr.

Ilicked lips that had gone dry. “I guess we’ll need to train together.” Seemedlike my whole life had been spent training -- Di and I had started studyinghand-to-hand with the Dads when we were three. Becoming a Ranger would probablymean more of the same.

“Yes,”he said. “Once your armor grows in, we can start going at it full force.”

Somethingabout the words “going at it” sent another flash of heat sizzling through mybloodstream, and I shot him a look. Did he mean that the way it sounded?

Hisgaze on mine was so dark, so sensual, that my mouth went dry over again. Yeah,he meant it.

Rowancoiled in again, bracing his elbows on his knees. His gaze focused on my lipsas he leaned in until his breath whispered over my lips, warm, scented with thechocolate from dessert. That sweet heat rolled through me again. He pressed hislips to mine, running his tongue over my lower lip, tasting it. Drew back alittle, staring into my eyes. “So sweet. I think I want seconds.” And he kissedme again, deeper, his tongue sliding between my lips, penetrating my mouth,tongue swirling around mine. My heart pounded harder, waves of heat rollingthrough my body. This time it had nothing to do with nanotech.
