Starting Over
Sometimes, a mistake is the best thing to happen to you. I got locked out of my Facebook account at the end of last week. I was trying to experiment with running a boosted post and ads, and let’s just say the experiment failed. In the end, I got hacked, tried to reset my password, couldn’t get the two-factor authentication to work out, and just decided to hell with it, I’ll start a new page.
Frustrating? Yes, at least trying to get back into that old page. But as the weekend passed, I started to realize that I didn’t really miss it. Facebook had become a time suck for me, one that I was wasting too much time on. Yes, I’m required to have it for my writing, and it’s critical to connect with readers, but I wasn’t doing that. I was plowing through things that I didn’t really want to see, things that were based on outdated interests, and I wasn’t seeing posts from most of my friends. The page had become cluttered. Trying to get back in and unclutter it is overwhelming, plus people there are so used to “me being me” that they won’t accept a change anyway.
I woke up yesterday remembering a quote I recently ran across from Socrates: “the secret to change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” So, I started over.
I do want to reconnect with my reader and writer friends. If you get a request, it’s legitimate to accept it, or you can send me a request here. I’ve also updated the link on the main page. And if you just want writing updates and don’t do Facebook, or aren’t interested in bird pictures, bad jokes, and silly posts, you can sign up for my newsletter on the main page too.
I debated whether it was more daunting to keep trying with the old account or start a new one, but I’ve found myself relieved since I started the new page. It’s already more relevant with my current interest and purpose to curate a more positive, connected vibe. And please, if you know of people or groups who love books, birds, scifi, mystery/suspense, 90’s grunge and alternative music, and rewriting reality in more positive and attractive vibes, send me or them that way!
I was trying to notify my friends online about my holiday book sale when the Facebook kerfuffle happened. Singularity ($0.99 ebook, $10.99 paperback, $19.99 hardback), Broken Time ($0.99 ebook), and The Earthside Box Set (5 ebooks for $5.95) are on sale through January 5. Gift yourself and others with something different this holiday season!
That’s all today. Take care, and have a great week.
Bye!
