The Nineties

The Nineties The Nineties by Chuck Klosterman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Nineties is about information. It’s about the evolving dissonance that disturbed what would otherwise be characterised an untroubled generation. It’s about the way Generation X - as the only generation to have adequately experienced both sides of the divide - perceived this growing divide. Klosterman does a fantastic job at combining rigour and wit to present this argument on the basis of interesting anecdotes to grapple with the zeitgeist of the decade. Everytime I think I get close to understanding his arguments, it changes; this constant reworking forced me to better appreciate the complexity of a society constantly in motion and filled with schisms. The only caveat: this is very USA-focused, without any consideration for other cultures.
