Deceptive Comrades
You have to go through it to get over it...the trick is not getting stuck in it.
New Year's Eve
This day prompted reflections on tenacity, resilience in the face of adversity, and the will to keep going forward in spite of many setbacks. It was prompted by the betrayal of a fellow writer whose last words were "love you girl."
And then her grift, complete with the big reveal of lies and underhanded ploys disguised as friendship, fell into my lap; a slap in the face.
It still baffles me how calculating some people can be.
In my book, "How to Deal with a Dumbass: What to do and say when they come your way," five personality traits are cited as trouble. By far the most dangerous is "apathetic." The grifter proved herself to be just that, and, after feeling the sting of multiple burns, I am revisiting my book's advice.
It is not easy to accept such hard truths but when they show-up, believe what you see. What IS is what shows up - what you make of it is up to you.
Giving an apathetic person a second chance is akin to cueing up the very arrow they will use to sling at you, AGAIN, so don't do it.
Responding with "OH OK - it's like that, huh? Oh, OKAAAY" is the only way to move through such 'big reveals' as betrayal, deception and manipulation.
If 2025 turns out to be the era of deception, wrought with A.I. fakery and more apathy from people around us, it is on us to quickly sift-and-sort fact from fiction.
While we cannot control many things, we can choose who we allow into our inner circle.
Like it or not, not everyone has your back. Choose well whom you invite into your foxhole, and make sure it isn't a wolf in sheep's clothing.
TRUST YOUR GUT not the grifter.

The procession, from being a lone wolf ghost writer and behind-the-scenes editor, to a very public transformational writing workshop facilitator, "herding cats" has been an interesting trek through the many personalities of those wishing to share their stories.
I love helping others discover their message as their story development coach/editor. Interestingly enough, my own voice was often not recognized in favor of theirs.
This blog will highlight some of those experiences. ...more
