The Season of Fresh Starts (And Sweaty Gyms)
Ah, January. It’s is like the Monday of the year, full of big plans, fresh starts, and crowded gyms. (I wouldn’t know about the gyms, but I’ve heard.) We promise ourselves we’ll meditate, hydrate, and meal prep like superhumans. This will be the year we read all the books, crush all the goals, and become the most enlightened, efficient, and fabulous versions of ourselves.
The Allure of a Blank Page
January’s real beauty lies in its sense of possibility. It’s a blank page, free from coffee stains and hastily scribbled to-dos. It whispers promises of new adventures, new opportunities, and maybe even new successes. (Anyone else believe this is THE YEAR? No? Just me?)
But let’s be honest—January can also feel overwhelming. The pressure to reinvent yourself is real, and sometimes it’s tempting to stay curled up in December’s cozy chaos instead.
How to January Without Losing Your Mind
Here’s the thing: you don’t have to overhaul your entire life just because the Earth completed one more lap around the sun. Instead, try this:
Pick One Small Thing: Instead of trying to “fix” everything, focus on one little thing that sparks joy. Drink an extra glass of water. Stretch for five minutes. Replace doom-scrolling with one chapter of a book. Small wins are still wins.Laugh at the Chaos: Life’s messy, even in January. Bless it! Give yourself grace. Forget to pack lunch on Day 3 of your grand meal prep plan? Pizza counts as a vegetable. Miss a workout? Consider it active rest. Hiccups happen! Take a deep breath on the other side of the bump—and keep breathing…Set Intentions, Not Perfection: Forget rigid resolutions. Instead, think about how you want to feel this year. Energized? Balanced? Inspired? Use those feelings as a guide and give yourself permission to evolve along the way.Celebrate the Little Things: Made it through the week without hitting snooze? High five! Finally put away the holiday decorations? Break out the confetti! Every step forward counts, no matter how small.Cheers to Whatever Comes NextJanuary is a wild ride of hope, determination, and occasional chaos. So, whether you’re crushing resolutions, just trying to get through the day, or somewhere in between, believe that you’re doing great.
(My ONE THING: Sunday Planning. I’m always off on Sunday, so I’m going to look at my vibrant vision board in my brand spanking new Passion Planner (On sale now. Not an affiliate link. The exercises in the beginning were short and transformative. Highly recommend.), pick one author goal for the week, and schedule it into the work week LIKE IT’S MY JOB. This is a new approach for me. I usually feel overwhelmed by the weight of all the things and flail around. I get a lot done, but not always what will do the most good at the right time.)
Remember, it’s not about being perfect—it’s about showing up, trying your best, and enjoying your journey. So grab a cup of coffee (and a cookie—let’s be real), take a deep breath, and dive into the new year. LFG, pals!
