Goal
A reader today emailed me to ask me what my goal is in publishing my book. It seems a rather simple question, yet my answer is likely different from that of other writers and has many layers to its answer.
In short, my goal is to reach as many readers as possible with my story. Not because I expect to earn money with sales, become a well-known author, get a movie deal, etc., but because I LOVE reading and I LOVE stories!
I carry pieces of stories I've read with me, characters who have affected me, and plots that left me stunned. I could ramble on about how Where The Red Fern Grows made me want a special bond with a puppy so much that I physically hurt, how And Then There Were None drew me into the story so that I was both terrified and delighted by the plot twists and turns, how The Shining made me forever afraid of corn mazes, gain an understanding of alcohol abuse and made REDRUM a household word.
Nothing could be more honoring and special than to have readers carry pieces of Predestined with them - through the characters, the setting, and the intrigue. I love hearing from readers who enjoy it, getting photos of them reading it and comments about the characters. Warms my heart SO much.
Rachel
p.s. I'm not saying I would turn down a movie deal...
