The Coterie

As before, Matthew is struck by how unusually free of debris the tower is. A place like this shouldn’t be empty: if he’d grown up in Daylight as a teen he’d have been here all the time, no matter how hard adults tried to keep him away. But the only signs of anyone having been here at all are his own—his footprints from his visit two days ago are still here, undisturbed in the dust.
